HOUSTON--A Bryan chiropractor
pleaded guilty today to conspiracy to defraud various automobile insurance
companies of more than $3 million, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Chase Lindsey, 34, who is the co-owner of Lindsey Chiropractic
Care located in Bryan, Texas, admitted that during two years he allowed fraudulent
claims to be created under his name for treatments that were never performed
and were used for fraudulent settlement demand letters sent to auto insurance
companies.
The insurance companies paid at least $1.2 million in false claims
during 2007-2009.
In some instances, federal officials stated that Lindsey either
never evaluated the patient or did so after the patient had already begun
receiving treatments. The treatments, if done, were done by unlicensed,
untrained, and unqualified individuals whom Lindsey never supervised, federal
authorities maintain.
Lindsey will be sentenced in April and is facing up to 30 years in
prison and up to a $1 million fine.
Remaining defendants in this case are set for trial in April.
